HOW THE COMMISSION FUNCTIONS
The primary function of the public complaints commission is to provide impartial investigation on behalf of the citizen who feel they have suffered injustice through the action or in actions of government ministries, local government, incorporated companies in nigeria and officials of these bodies on a daily basis decisions are made by these bodies which affect the lives of the citizens majority of these decisions and action are just and reasonable.however error do occurs and when these happen it is the duty of the commission to identify address and recommend the rectification of these mistake amicably. The commission is independent of government bureaucracy and at the same time it is given extensive powers regarding disclosures and access to all government information including the production of documents of which aid the commission in its investigation .The commission is empowered to enforce compliance in order to obtain the necessary information .The power is vital to commission in facilitating impartial investigation in order to arrive at a fair and equitable decision .investigation of complaints is provided at no cost to the citizen as well as non_citizen resident in the country and they are treated with the confidentiality they deserve. The commission has able staff to handle all the complaints speedily provided there is cooperation from the respondent .The commission put high priority on being accessible to the citizen and fulfill this commitment the commission not only has office in thirty six (36) state of the federation and abuja (the federal capital territory) it also has five (5) zonal located in local government areas in each state of the federation .In addition complaint boxes are placed in strategic locations in local government areas which could reach the commission as well as make it possible for the complainants not to travel far distances before lodgings their complaints .

• To investigate and resolve complaints against Federal, States and Local Governments, Public Corporations and the Private Sector Organizations.
• To provide informal, dependable and freely accessible service to members of the public.
• To promote the treatment of members of the public with courtesy, compassion and honesty;
• To educate members of the public on the services of the Office of the Ombudsman (Public Complaints Commission);
• To offer guidance to members of the public whose complaints are outside the jurisdiction of the Commission;
• To promote an effective public service that is responsive to the needs of the citizenry.
